Sculpture Installation
This suspended sculpture brings together metal fencing, plaster casts of the artist’s fists, and a black flag in a mobile-like structure. Assembled during her first year living in Europe, the piece responds to the dissonance between external perceptions of Puerto Rican identity and the lived realities of colonial aftermath—particularly in the wake of Hurricane María. Confronted with dismissive reassurances like “but you're American, you're fine,” the artist reflects on the unseen battles—internal and political—faced by diasporic Puerto Ricans. The sculpture hangs in quiet tension, embodying protest, mourning, and the weight of belonging to a nation both claimed and neglected.
